Starling Murmuration
Julia and I spent a cold November night at Rigg near Gretna, just over the border in Scotland, marvelling at this magnificent aerial ballet provided by thousands of starlings.
The video lasts about 7 minutes - we actually stood watching for nearly an hour - these are the highlights.
Make sure you watch the end when, within a few seconds, the whole flock descends into the wood to roost.
The video was shot on my Canon 60D with my Canon 100-400mm lens, mounted on a tripod.
I had to add music (Handel's 'Fireworks' music - quite apt I thought?) to drown out Julia's 'oohs and aahhs' on the camera's soundtrack!
